Grab your Bjorem Speech Sound Cues and use this supplemental worksheet to begin exploring phonemic awareness!
• Identification of sounds: Use word lists from your speech or literacy curriculum to work on identifying initial, medial, or final sounds. Contrast one sound against the target letter. For example, using the Singing Lemur L sound versus the Coughing Camel C sound. Say the word and have the child decide if they hear the target sound. Add a star or use a dot marker below the picture that matches the presented sound. This activity targets phonemic awareness. Start with initial sounds. Once mastered, move to final sounds. Then target medial vowel sounds. Reinforce the sound-to-letter connection by stating “Yes, [word] has the sound “[sound]” and has the letter [letter name].”
